Asian Market: Trip 1 - Milk Flavor, Coffee Candy, and Mochi

We have gone to the market and acquired many new items. Our first item was...

COFFEE CANDY. See the beautiful picture? Isn't it artsy? I think so. Our overall thinking about this candy was this: it tastes like coffee. Burnt coffee. It wasn't totally terrible, but definitely wasn't the best thing in the world. Sid says she probably wouldn't buy it again, even though she loves coffee like she loves sunshine. Rachel says it wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was eh. Rachel double spaces when she types after periods. That's interesting. Thanks HS English teacher. You're the coolest. 

The next item that we tried and snacked on and such was...

MILK FLAVOR CANDY. It is a candy from Korea, made from joy and happiness. Also, milk. And sugar. Overall, it has a really weird flavor. It has an oily texture, doesn't really taste like milk at all. It's chewy. Sidney has had this when it had been aged a couple of years and it tasted better. I'm not really sure how much wonderful that is. Sid was so excited about this because of that factoid and, unfortunately, she wasn't impressed. As for Rach? She was rather alarmed by the fact that it didn't taste like milk.  One of the main ingredients was milk... maybe it was the "artificial flavor" of milk that threw her off.  

Our next item is...

HANDMADE MOCHI, GREEN TEA FLAVORED. Between you and me, I have no idea what mochi is. We could google it, but no. Have you ever had bean paste wrapped in dough, with a filling of white beanish, I'm-not-really-sure-what-it-is stuff? If so, there's no real need to try this. The taste was overpowered by the texture. The texture was uncomfortable and scary. It was like we were chewing bread dough. That's an experience Sid hasn't had in a bit of time. It had quite a weak flavor. Rachel says she never wants to experience something like that again, and hopes it doesn't turn her off of trying new things completely.  Sid has no words.

Why Are We Here?

Hello. We have taken the task upon ourselves to evaluate the food at the markets around the world. Noted, we do live in Kansas. However, this does not seem a problem, as there are markets all around the world.

We will be buying random items (edible) off the shelves and evaluating them. Our posts will be categorized by market trips, as this makes the most sense. We would like to walk with you on this journey of wonderful joy of trying new food! 

Oh, note. Who are we? We are Marshall! Jokes. We have two names. They are the following: Rachel and Sidney. We are explorers, adventurers, and like to travel the world (sometimes, through our palates).  If Rachel could go anywhere in the world, she would go to Kenya to visit a dear friend. As for Sidney, she would like to go to Indonesia or China. Why, you ask? To see people and experience culture. 

We are so excited to go on this journey with you! If you have any suggestions of places to go or food to try (even if you find them over the Interwebs [that's the Internet]), hit us up. 

Note. Sid is gluten intolerant. Most of the food we try will be gluten free. Way to be. Note: don't give up eating gluten if you're not gluten intolerant. It's not necessarily healthier and can develop an intolerance in your body.
